Mama Care

Mama Care

I am passionate about educating, empowering, and improving your pelvic health and it starts here while you are pregnant or post natal.

Pregnancy and childbirth can challenge us in many ways and have similar impact on our body as any demanding athletic event. While many women prepare for sports events, preparing for childbirth and recovery is often forgotten. Our bodies are incredibly resilient and no matter what type of delivery or how easy or difficult it may be, our body is preparing, changing and recovering for many months before and after.

I started developing the Mama Care Project in 2018. In essence it is the information I wish
I knew when having my own children and what I would like every person who is pregnant
or just had a baby to know at the beginning of their pelvic health journey as we know
a lot of pelvic health issues start here even if there are no symptoms.

Come join me - be pelvic health empowered

Pelvic Floor & Core Masterclass,
Prepare to Push & Recover
6.15-8.15pm Thursday 16th May
& Thursday 23rd May 2024.

  • Many people wish they had learnt more about preparing and caring for their pelvic floor and core during pregnancy, so I have created this class to do just that. In this class I share vital information with you to help you optimise all facets of pelvic floor and core health not only while you are pregnant but also to support you as you recover.

This is a group class open to any pregnant person at any stage of pregnancy – the earlier the better so you can utilise the information as early as possible.

This masterclass is split over 2 evenings to help you digest information and cover as many topics as possible.

What will you get from this masterclass?

    • An in depth understanding of the pelvic floor – what, where, when, and most importantly how.

    • Vital bladder & bowel health optimisation strategies.

    • Learn to recognise the signs of a pelvic health problem so you can act early.

    • Strategies to prevent and manage pain in pregnancy and in labour.

    • Knowledge on exercise at all stages of pregnancy – benefits, what is safe and what to avoid.

    • An action plan for each step of the journey to help you put all you learn into action before, during and after.

    • We also cover perineal massage, sex after baby, diastasis, labour positions etc.

    • Time to ask all your burning questions.

    • Bonus: Birth preparation exercise program.

Note: These classes are completely different from traditional antenatal classes. You may have a short discussion on pelvic floor at antenatal or with your midwife, but this is 4 hours all on pelvic, pelvic floor and core health and wellbeing to set you up for now and the future to be pelvic health empowered for life.

Workshops will be run according to demand locally in Hawkes Bay, or nationwide if you have an established group so please make contact to enquire on availability and register your interest.

  • Pregnancy is the perfect time to start optimising pelvic floor and core health as recovery from pregnancy and birth begins while you are still pregnant.

A PreBABE (Pregnancy Body After Baby Evaluation) is a one on one 1-hour check-up in clinic which helps you decide on the next best steps for your pelvic and pelvic floor health, wellbeing, and delivery.

    PreB.A.B.E assessment includes

    • Pelvic floor check

    • Pelvic floor exercise prescription based on your start point.

    • Posture and breathing

    • Tummy check

    • Discuss modifications to your current exercise program.

Also allows us time to answer any questions you may have that relate to you personally and your pregnancy and childbirth journey.

This is for you if you are body and health conscious and want to optimise your pregnancy and birth recovery and help prevent problems down the track.

While pregnant: Any time from 20 weeks

Pregnancy B.A.B.E Body After Baby Evaluation – An assessment (around 20 weeks) and follow up around 34 weeks helps set you up to optimise pelvic floor and core health throughout pregnancy. A follow up helps to review and answer any pre delivery questions, provide advice regarding perineal preparation and pushing strategies.

  • After having a baby (vaginal or caesarean delivery) we need time to heal, recover and return to a new normal after pregnancy and childbirth. Many women suffer with back pain, hip and pelvic girdle pain and pelvic floor and core weakness. Some women also sustain injuries that can’t be seen and may not become a problem for weeks, months or years after. This time after baby has been called the 4th trimester as it is a time of great change just like each of the 3 trimesters of pregnancy.

The 4th trimester is the perfect time while we are adapting to new routines to consider and care for ourselves. Taking positive steps like a B.A.B.E assessment helps us to identify any areas of recovery that can be enhanced and supported as well as helping you meet the new challenges of parenthood while also setting you up to handle the demands of returning to other things like sport and exercise and work and family commitments.

A B.A.B.E (Body After Baby Evaluation) is a 1-hour in clinic check-up. It does not matter what kind of delivery you have had or if you have any symptoms or problems or not it is important for anyone following birth as helps you decide on the next best steps for your health, wellbeing and fitness goals.

The assessment will also highlight if there is something you can do to improve bladder, bowel, and sexual health and will assess for pelvic organ prolapse if you have symptoms also any trauma to your pelvic floor that is not visible on the outside and may affect you later in life.

We can also lodge an ACC claim for you if you have an injury covered by ACC related to child birth.

This is for you if you are body and health conscious and want to optimise your recovery and help prevent problems down the track.

    Options include:

B.A.B.E Body After Baby EvaluationAny time post-natal earlier for those experiencing symptoms or after traumatic delivery - assessing impact of pregnancy and delivery (vaginal or caesarean section (C-section) on pelvic floor, tummy, posture and core strength.
